Chorus Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Heart of Pennsylvania, a women’s barbershop chorus based in Lewisburg, celebrated its 10th anniversary recently at their rehearsal at Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg. Chorus President Barbara Woodson spoke about the formation of the group and its development over the past 10 years. Both past and prospective members were invited to attend and refreshments were served.
The chorus is affiliated with Harmony, Inc., begun in 1959 to inspire women of all ages in the United States and Canada to sing and work ‘in harmony’ together.
Under the direction of Dee Casteel, the Heart of Pennsylvania has sung for numerous church and civic organizations, nursing homes, and various festivals throughout the Susquehanna Valley, offering a mix of secular, religious, and patriotic numbers.
Heart of Pennsylvania will provide entertainment for the annual oyster supper at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Turbotville on February 2, the Watsontown Lions Sweetheart Dinner on February 8, and Nottingham Village in Northumberland on February 11th.
Organizations who would like to make an event special by having the chorus perform should contact Bev Staman at 538-3942.
Current members come from the Lewisburg, Milton, Muncy, Hughesville, Sunbury, Turbotville, Watsontown, and Williamsport areas. Women interested in learning more about singing four part harmony in the traditional barbershop style are invited to attend a rehearsal at the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, 42 S. Third Street, Lewisburg on Thursdays at 7:00 PM. Anyone interested in joining may contact Membership Chairperson Jayne Martin.
